Full Description
A late Iron Age or early Roman pit and ditch were identified during a 2015 watching brief at Owl's Hatch Solar Farm, Herne. Both features were located slightly to the north-west of the site. The pit measured 0.90x0.60x0.20m and the ditch measured 1.20m in width and 0.50m in depth. Both features contained and contained small charcoal flecks and heat affected natural flint. The ditch also contained 16 pottery sherds dating from the 1st century BC to the early Roman period, alongside a piece of unworked burnt flint and a fragment of fired clay. The pit and ditch may relate to a wider landscape of later prehistoric and Roman settlement in the vicinity of the site. (1)
