Full Description

A 19th century pond was identified at Scocles Farm, Minster on Sea during an evaluation carried out in 2019 in advance of proposed development at the site. The feature measured 24m in length and was identified to the NW of the site. The fill of the feature contained fragments of iron, glass bottles, wood, charred material, gravel, and hardcore within a black clay deposit. A test pit was excavated 5m off the western extent of the pond to determine the stratigraphic sequence and identified natural around 1.45m in depth. The pond is visible on the 1869 OS map suggesting that it is likely to have been establihsed during the later post-medieval period before becoming disused. (1)
