Summary

Five medieval ditches, including drainage ditches, a boundary ditch, and evidence for ridge and furrow, were excavated at land west of Barton Hill Drive, Minster. The features were identified during an evaluation carried out in 2021.

Full Description

Five medieval ditches, including drainage ditches, a boundary ditch, and evidence for ridge and furrow, were excavated at land west of Barton Hill Drive, Minster. The features measured 1.8-5+m in length by 1.14-2.52m in width, and 0.12-0.52m in depth and were identified during an evaluation carried out in 2021. Fragments of pottery (the majority of which were locally produced), marine shell, and animal remains were recovered from the fills of the features, alongside two fragments of undated ceramic building material and a piece of burnt flint.
