Full Description
At least four undated ditches, two pits, and a natural pond were excavated during an strip, map, and sample excavation carried out at Halfway Egg Farm, Iwade in 2023. The ditches may relate to a natural spring line and one of the pits is only classified as 'possible', therefore the features may have predominantly been created by natural processes.
Artefacts associated with the possible features included a small assemblage of abraded late prehistoric pottery alongside two residual sherds, one Roman and one medieval in date. If the features are made as a result of human intervention, the presence of the artefacts implies that they could relate to later prehistoric features identified in the vicinity of the site during a previous excavation (TQ 96 NW 140). However, the artefacts could also be residual within natural contexts, deposited as a result of activity in the vicinity of the site. (1)
