Full Description
A late Bronze Age and Iron Age farmstead and field system were excavated at Halfway Egg Farm, Sittingbourne during an evaluation carried out in 2022. Features included a scatter of early Bronze Age pits, and a series of late Bronze Age and Iron Age ditches forming a field system at the site.
Artefacts recovered from the fills of features include fragments of pottery dating from the later prehistoric period, iron pan, burnt clay, and worked flint. The small assemblage of worked flint recovered from across the site dated between the Mesolithic and Iron Age periods, with one fragment dating to between the Upper Palaeolithic and the Neolithic period (TQ 96 NW 1179).
