Full Description
HMP Elmely is one of six so-called "Bullingdon Repeat" prisons. It was begun on 17th July 1989 and opened in February 1992. In 1997 a DOW VI (Directorate Of Works VI) prefabricated steel cell block was added. Elmley was designed to house 650 inmates in four houseblocks which each have three galleried spurs arranged around a central area which contains wing offices. Attached to these are two storied blocks containing offices and inmate facilities. There are separate workshops, visits, reception and health care centre.
