Full Description
The third purpose-built public works prison. Designed by Joshua Jebb and opened 1856. The accommodation blocks were arranged in a T-plan, with three four-storey wings containing 1135 corrugated iron sleeping berths. It was extended in the 1860s by the addition of a new wing.
