Full Description

Later prehistoric ditches and undated ditches and pits were identified during an evaluation carried out at Great Grovehurst Farm, Sittingbourne in 2017. Artefacts associated with the prehistoric phase of activity at the site included pottery fragments, worked flint, and burnt flint. An undated fragment of oyster shell was also recovered from one of the undated features at the site.

Analysis of the features revealed that a boundary likely existed to the east of the site, evidenced by a system of ditches, and that this was re-established during the Late Bronze Age/Early Iron Age. The authors of the report (1) also stated that, due to the relatively small quantity of artefacts, domestic settlement activity was not present within the site boundary, although a settlement may have existed elsewhere in the vicinity of the site.
