Full Description

Two charcoal burning pits containing charcoal and in situ heat affected clay, alongside refuse pits containing redeposited charcoal and heat affected clay were identified during the excavation. A series of possible pits and/or post-holes with no associated finds were located in close proximity to the other features. Layers overlying the pits contained fragments of late medieval and early post-medieval pottery, suggesting that the pits could date between the later prehistoric and late medieval periods, however, small undiagnostic glass fragments were recovered from the fills of the pits during environmental sampling, and the features were broadly dated to a period between prehistoric and the 19th century.
