Full Description
A public works prison for adult male convicts opened on 22 February 1877. A satelite of Chatham Convict Prison. By 1886-7 the work of building five magazines had been completed. Prison closed and buildings dismantled. (1-2)
The general location of the prison falls within the area mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project, but no features associated with possible prison structures were identified during that survey. (3)
