Full Description
In 2018/2019 archaeoloigcal excavation was carried out south of the M20. In Area 2, several features dating to the late Iron Age/early Roman period were discovered, mainly in the form of ditches. Three main ditch groups (10024, 10085, and 10096) were identified, likely forming parts of a rectilinear field system or enclosures, possibly for stock management. These ditches were aligned with the local topography and may have defined field boundaries. Pottery sherds found in the ditch fills date them to around 50 BC–AD 100. The ditches did not show evidence of settlement structures, suggesting the area was used for agricultural purposes rather than habitation. Animal bone, including cattle, was also found, supporting this interpretation. (1)
