Full Description
A cluster of pits containing worked flint and pottery were identified during an excavation carried out at Preston Fields in 2022-2023 in advance of proposed residential development. Five pits were identified measuring up to 0.5-1.2m long and 0.5-1.06m wide and 0.2-0.28m deep.
Burnt flint tempered pottery and worked flint including scrapers and cores were recovered from the fills of the features. The worked flint assemblage was provisionally dated to the Neolithic period. (information from an interim report on excavations, 1)
