Full Description

Twenty trenches were excavated by TVAS in 2020 ahead of the construction of a new access road. Trench 18 contained a Roman cremation burial of an adult (as well as two ditches dated to the early Roman period). As well as burnt human bones, there were 33 hob nails and 89 jet beads, and at least 3 fragmented pottery vessels dated to the 2nd/3rd century AD. The sex and age of the cremated human remains could not be determined.

The cremation burial is located in an area of Roman occupation features (TR 24 NW 265) which may form part of a roadside settlement. (1)
