Full Description
During an evaluation undertaken by ASE in 2015 ahead of property development, a series of features relating to a medieval and post-medieval agricultural landscape were excavated. These comprised 14th-18th century and undated linear features, including field boundaries and drainage ditches.
Furthermore, several quarry pits were also located during the excavations. One was dated to between the 14th-18th centuries due to the recovery of 14th-18th century tile fragments within its fill. The other quarry pit was determined to be modern in origin as its fill contained modern concrete and plastic.
Finds recovered from the ditches included ceramic building material, brick, and roof tile dated to the later medieval to post-medieval period. The earlier of the two quarry pits also contained an undated metal bolt and a single fragment of slag. (1)
