Full Description
Late Bronze Age and Roman hollow way was identified during a series of excavations and archaeological investigations at 99 High Street, Newington. The hollow way was established during the Bronze Age period and was later reused during the Roman period, forming part of an Iron Age and Roman agricultural and industrial settlement (TQ 86 SE 365).
The feature measured over 92m in length, up to 7.41m in width, and 1.2m in depth. The trackway which replaced the hollow way during the Roman period measured over 92m in length, 11.2m in width, and 0.51m in depth. Both features were associated with small quantities of pottery, ceramic building material/daub, and charcoal. (1)
