NB: Until the adoption of the Gregorian "New Style" Calendar in 1752, the Julian "Old Style" Calendar was still in use in England, with the New Year additionally beginning on 25th March. Thus in contemporary sources dates between 1st January and 24th March may be recorded as one year behind the modern Gregorian reckoning, although sometimes, as in the case of source (1), the New Style dating is also recognised. All records are indexed by New Style for consistency, as this is still in use as the modern calendar.
