Full Description
The earthworks of three closely spaced bomb craters can be seen on aerial photographs taken in 1947. These three craters are situated on Cooling Marshes. The largest crater is at TQ 7564 7706 is over 20m across. The second crater is approximately 19m across and is at TQ 7567 7709 and the third is circa 15m across and is at TQ 7567 7706. These three craters are surrounded by and connected by the up-cast caused by the explosion. They appear as water filled pools on aerial photographs taken in 2003. These earthworks were mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.(1-2)
