Full Description
The building is visible on the 1st (1862-1875), 2nd (1897-1900), 3rd (1907-1923) and 4th (1929-1952) ed. OS maps.
The building was built in 1819 to be the County Assembly Rooms and also contained the County Ballroom. By 1882 a large skating rink had been added. In the 1890s it became the Duke of Cambridge public house. Post 1918 it became the Maidstone Ex-service Men's Club. The building became a printng works post 1930.The building was demolished post 1970.
From 1846 the County Assembly Rooms were hired by the Kent Ophthalmic Institute (This was to receive "outdoor patients" (i. 24 August 1847, the Hospital moved and opened in Church Street, Maidstone). E. outpatients) "until the Funds are capable of supporting indoor patients".
