Full Description

In 2019, two foundation trenches were dug at the rear of 13 Church Street St Mary's for an extension to the property.
In the south west trench, the waterlogged marine sand was cut by a pit (1.7m across and 0.35m deep), infilled with chalk, carbon specks and a large boulder.
In the north east trench, there was a pit (1m across, 0.35m deep). Three sherds of post Medieval pottery were recovered. They were of red earthenware from three separate vessels with a yellowish brown glaze on their internal surfaces. All three are broadly dated to AD 1550-1750. (1)
