Full Description
Cropmarks of a 19m long curving pit alignment of uncertain date in open land at West Dumpton, centred at TR 3762 6615 and aligned WNW-ESE. This is possibly due to a former tree planting regime. The pits are regularly arranged in two, and in places three off-set lines at regular intervals 7m apart and 2m between each line. It is not clear from historic aerial photographs what the origin of the pits is, but photographs taken in the 1940s show the edge of a regime of planting corresponding with the aligment and 4th edition OS maps record a boundary marked by trees corresponding to this.
