Monument record TQ 66 NW 184 - Later prehistoric or Roman rectilinear enclosures, Southfleet

Summary

Cropmarks of a number of probable later prehistoric or Roman rectilinear enclosures, probably a settlement, visible on aerial photographs. All are defined by ditches with straight sites and angled corners. The southern-most enclosure , though appearing to be linked to the others by a ditch is on an alignment at 45 degrees to the rest which suggests a different phase or period of construction. This enclosure is cut by the modern field boundary, but traces of the southern ditch can be detected in the adjacent field to the south. The site is confused by the extensive cropmarks of the patterns caused by the underlying geology.
