Full Description
A prehistoric ditch and pit were identified during an excavation carried out in 2020 at White House Farm, Stoke Road. The pit measured 0.62m in length, 0.55m in width and 0.09m in depth and contained a small quantity of mid-late Bronze Age pottery sherds. The ditch segment measured 12.29m in length, 0.91 in width and 0.18m in depth and contained a small quantity of mid to late Bronze Age pottery, animal bone, a perforated clay weight, and possible early Neolithic worked flint. This feature may have originally functioned as a field boundary ditch, and was later reused to dispose of rubbish.
These features are considered (1) to indicate the presence of a mid to late Bronze Age settlement in the vicinity of the site.
Other features identified at the site included two undated pits, a post-medieval field boundary ditch, and a ditch forming part of the Hoo Peninsula World War Two Stop Line anti-invasion ditch. (1)
