Full Description
Cropmarks of ring ditches, a trackway and a field system, are visible in Google Earth images of 2013 to the northeast of Elmstone.
There are two ring ditches each c.18m across immediately adjacent to each other. The south-western one has a larger irregular ring ditch around it, apparently re-cutting the ditch of the other ring ditch. This ditch is c.30m across. To the northwest of both ring ditches there is a trackway curving from the west up to the northeast, visible for a length of c.120m, and 9m wide. The trackway is partly visible on aerial photos of 1990. Extending from the western boundary there is a ditch possibly forming part of a field system with an additional ditch at a right-angle to it further to the northwest.
Cropmarks of two conjoined ring ditches, possibly the remains of Bronze Age round barrows visible on aerial photographs and located at TR 2616 6069 to the north-east of the village of Elmstone. The larger of the two has two ditch circuits and traces of inner pits. Adjacent to these is section of a probable later prehistoric double-ditched trackway, one ditch of which appears to be cut by the outer ditch of the larger barrow. (2)
