Full Description
Ring ditch visible as cropmarks in Google Earth image of 2007, to the south of Down Barton, St Nicholas at Wade. It is 10m across and consists of a single circular ditch with no interruption. (1)
A ring ditch forming part of a round barrow of Bronze Age date was visible as a cropmark in Next Perspectives APGB Imagery 14-APR-2015. It measures about 12.6m in maximum diameter. This feature was mapped as part of the Historic England Isle of Thanet project in 2024. (2)
The ring ditch lies c.15-20m SW of the SW corner of the rectilinear enclosure and has a diameter of c.10m, possibly representing a hut circle, but may also be a small Bronze Age round barrow – a number of which have been recorded in the field to the north of Down Barton Farm (467028 and 466999).
