Abstract/Summary
The report details an initial archaeological survey of a V-2 rocket impact site in Greenlane Wood, Chevening, Kent, from 27 February 1945. The site, identified through archival records, aerial photos, and Lidar, shows a shallow crater and numerous V-2 rocket fragments, mainly aluminium fuel tank debris. The survey found no prior archaeological records for the area. The crater’s reduced size suggests the rocket may have struck a tree before impact. The report recommends further excavation, as significant remains likely exist at shallow depth, which could enhance understanding of V-2 impacts and wartime manufacturing practices.
