| Author/Originator | Canterbury Archaeological Trust |
| Date/Year | 2003 |
Abstract/Summary
The Canterbury Archaeological Trust conducted a 2002 excavation of The Grange’s gardens in Ramsgate to inform restoration plans. The investigation confirmed the accuracy of the 1872 Ordnance Survey map, revealing original garden layouts, paths, and a central fountain. Most paths were chalk-based with flint surfacing, and few original edgings survived. The dividing wall between upper and lower gardens was robbed out, and later modifications—especially during the site's use as a school—introduced significant overburden and structural changes. Excavations also uncovered remnants of the original kitchen bay window and foundations of the Billiard Room and chapel extension.
