Full Description
A late Anglo-Saxon/medieval ditch was identified during an evaluation to the south of School Lane, Bapchild carried out in 2018 in advance of proposed residential development at the site. The fill of the feature contained 17 sherds from a 1050-1200 AD cooking pot.
Other features identified comprising an undated ditch, and several post-medieval ditches and a pit. The site is located at the base of a steep slope, and all features contain colluvium resulting from hillwash, therefore, the dates of construction for some of the features are uncertain. However, the dating for the late Anglo-Saxon or medieval ditch is likely to be relatively accurate as the pottery sherds were recovered from the base of the feature. (1)
